The interaction between the flexible RPS0A-C-terminal tail and residues 200-400 of the TIF32-N-terminal domain significantly stimulates attachment of eIF3 and its associated eIFs to small ribosomal subunits in vivo.

Data suggest that the eIF3b-eIF3j/eIF3a module binds near the mRNA entry channel and regulates the transition between scanning-conducive and initiation-competent conformations of the preinitiation complex.
