ARI12 is a functional RING-HECT E3 ubiquitin ligase which is mono-ubiquitinated. ARI12 transcript and protein abundance depends on COP1 in white light, low and high fluence rates of UV-B.

ARI12 is a downstream target of the UV-B receptor, UVR8, and the transcription factors HY5 and HYH under low fluence rates. Under high fluence rates of broad band UV-B/A ARI12 transcription is suppressed by UVR8 and the blue light/UV-A receptors cryptochromes 1 and 2. ARI12 expression is independent of phototropin 1 and 2 and phytochomes A and B.
