GeneRIFs: Gene References Into Functions What's a GeneRIF?
Nhp6 proteins, the HMGB1 homologues, control histone gene expression by affecting nucleosome stability at regulative regions of the histone clusters. In addition, we observe that histone gene overexpression in the nhp6ab mutant is accompanied by downregulated translation, which in turn is responsible for the histone decrease phenotype.
Title: A novel role for Nhp6 proteins in histone gene regulation in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
This review describes the genetic and biochemical experiments that indicate Nhp6 functions in promoting RNA pol III transcription, in formation of preinitiation complexes at promoters, and in facilitating the activity of chromatin modifying complexes.
Title: Nhp6: a small but powerful effector of chromatin structure in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
The incorporation of the histone variant H2A.Z, but not the HMG proteins Nhp6a/b, in promoter regions creates a specialized chromatin domain that is required for pre-initiation complex assembly at the GAL1 locus.
Title: Variant histone H2A.Z, but not the HMG proteins Nhp6a/b, is essential for the recruitment of Swi/Snf, Mediator, and SAGA to the yeast GAL1 UAS(G).
NHP6B is required for transcription of a subset of tRNA genes and heterochromatin barrier function.
Title: Requirement of Nhp6 proteins for transcription of a subset of tRNA genes and heterochromatin barrier function in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
Nhp6 is required for transcriptional initiation fidelity of some but not all tRNA genes, in vivo
Title: Nhp6 is a transcriptional initiation fidelity factor for RNA polymerase III transcription in vitro and in vivo.
The following NHP6B gene cDNA ORF clone sequences were retrieved from the NCBI Reference Sequence Database (RefSeq). These sequences represent the protein coding region of the NHP6B cDNA ORF which is encoded by the open reading frame (ORF) sequence. ORF sequences can be delivered in our standard vector, pcDNA3.1+/C-(K)DYK or the vector of your choice as an expression/transfection-ready ORF clone. Not the clone you want?
