Data suggest that thioredoxin-1 (Trx1) modulates activity of soluble nitric oxide-sensitive guanylyl cyclase (GC1, subunits alpha and beta) through an association between Trx1 and GC1 via a mixed disulfide; Trx1 protects GC1 from desensitization. These studies were conducted, in part, using rat neonatal cardiomyocytes in primary culture.
