Study finds that the Aurora B kinase Ipl1 regulates kinetochore-microtubule attachment during both meiotic divisions and that a complex known as the monopolin complex ensures that the protein kinase coorients sister chromatids during meiosis I.

We show that monopolin subunit Mam1 binds tightly to Hrr25, a highly conserved casein kinase 1 delta/varepsilon, and recruits it to meiosis I centromeres. Hrr25 kinase activity and Mam1 binding are both essential for monopolar attachment.
