Neuropeptide S evoked a significant somatodendritic release of oxytocin within the paraventricular nucleus. The anxiolytic effect of NPS seen after i.c.v. or intra-PVN infusion requires responsive OXT neurons of the PVN and locally released OXT.

Under long term stressed conditions, the release of AVP and OXT from hypothalamus may vary depending on the content of the stressors.
