Background
Target Background Monkeypox virus is an enveloped double-stranded DNA virus that belongs to the Orthopoxvirus genus of the Poxviridae family. It is a viral zoonosis that causes similar symptoms to smallpox, although it is clinically less severe. Vaccination against smallpox was demonstrated through several observational studies to be about 85% effective in preventing monkeypox. Since early May 2022, more than 16,000 cases of monkeypox have been reported from countries where the disease is not endemic, and continue to be reported in several endemic countries, WHO has claimed monkeypox as a "Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC)". The L1R protein from Monkeypox is crucial for viral growth and virion morphogenesis, it is a potential target for developing diagnosis and vaccine.
