Data suggest that osmotic stress induces hyperphosphorylation of mitotic inducer cdr1 for several hours and cells delay division during same time period; this stress-induced hyperphosphorylation requires both cdr1 autophosphorylation and stress-activated protein kinase sty1. (cdr1 = serine/threonine protein kinase cdr1/nim1; sty1 = MAP kinase sty1)
