Data indicate that the triple and quadruple rwa1 (AT5g46340), rwa2 (At3g06550), rwa3 (At2g34410) and rwa4 (At1g29890) mutants display severe growth phenotypes revealing the importance of wall acetylation for plant growth and development.

Loss-of-function mutants in one of the genes, designated REDUCED WALL ACETYLATION2 (RWA2), had decreased levels of acetylated cell wall polymers and displayed increased tolerance toward the necrotrophic fungal pathogen Botrytis cinerea. [RWA2]
