Abf2p does not significantly affect either binding of Cce1p to branched DNA or rate and specificity of Holliday junction resolution. These data suggest the existence of an alternative homologous recombination pathway in yeast mitochondria.

Results show that CCE1 can mediate intramolecular recombination in human mitochondria, and it is necessary to strictly regulate the expression of CCE1 in human cells to ensure the selection and maintenance of WT mtDNA.
